INVESTORS AND FUNDERS

Your thesis is the filter. We do not have a view.

If you are a fund, a corporate venture arm, a family office or a public funder working between Japan and Europe, most of what reaches you is sent by somebody who is paid when something closes. This is the other arrangement. You write down what you look at and what you will not; when something we already hold meets those criteria we tell you, and we tell you which of your own criteria it met.

WHAT YOU GET

Four things, and an opinion is not one of them

A match stated in your own words

When something matches we say which criteria it met: the sector, the stage, the band, the geography, the instrument. That is the entire claim we make, and it is a claim about your sentence rather than about the company.

Organisations that came to us for their own reasons

Requirements from companies solving a cross-border problem, specialists whose evidence somebody checked, public pilots with a named decision date. Not a pipeline assembled in order to be shown to investors.

Nothing without the company's own permission

No organisation is described to you without its written permission, and none is named to you without a separate yes, given for you and for that one company at the moment it is needed.

Silence when nothing matches

You may hear nothing from us for months. That is what a filter looks like when it is working, and we would rather say so than invent a reason to write to you.

THE LIMITS

What this is not

Not a ranked list
What matches your thesis reaches you in the order it arrived. Whatever we put at the top we would be recommending, and a ranking is a recommendation with the reasoning left out.
Not a pipeline you can audit
We record the introduction and then we stop. Our register has no field for an amount, a valuation or a round, because once two parties are talking what happens between them is theirs.
Not a volume arrangement
We will not send you something to keep a relationship warm. A filter that always has something to show you has stopped being a filter.
WHERE THE LINE IS

Three things we do, and two we are not able to

The three. We record what you invest in, in your own words. We compare it with what organisations have brought us for reasons of their own. And when the two meet we tell you, naming the criteria of yours that made them meet.

The first thing we are not able to do is have a view. The moment we rank, score, value, project or call something a good opportunity, this stops being a filter and becomes investment advice. Neither of the two legal persons behind KyoLink is licensed to give it in any jurisdiction we work in, and neither is applying, so the capacity does not exist here in a practical sense either: there is no field in our register for a score, so there is nothing for anybody to fill in.

The second is to be paid for an outcome. We do not give investment advice, place or underwrite financial instruments, or receive or transmit orders, and no fee of ours depends on capital being raised or invested. Anything that would amount to a regulated investment service sits outside this route unless it is structured separately and properly authorised. So nothing on this route is charged on an outcome and nothing is held back to be charged later. Where we are paid at all, it is for defined work agreed in advance, and the fee is the same whether anything closes or nothing does.

What that leaves is a filter that is exactly as good as your own sentence, which is why the first thing you get from us is a written answer about the sentence. Within five working days we say whether what you sent excludes enough to be filtered against. A thesis that excludes nothing matches everything, and a thesis that matches everything matches nothing. That answer is about the words, never about your fund, and it is said in those terms.

Twelve months later we come back and ask whether it still holds. Funds close, mandates move and the person who wrote the thesis leaves, and a filter running against a sentence nobody still stands behind is worse than no filter at all.

Four lines are enough to start

What you look at, what you will not look at, the stages and the band, and where you can deploy. You will have a written answer within five working days, either way.
